Why We Started the “Grow the Green” Movement

The “Grow the Green” movement is inspired by the transformative work members of the Collaborative Commons have accomplished together. Over the years, we’ve helped close the gap between demand and capacity, empowering individuals, teams, and organizations to thrive. This movement builds on that foundation to create stronger connections and more effective collaboration.

Here are a few examples of our collective impact & insights:

Helping Communities Recover Fully

We’ve supported communities in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters. However, healthy recovery only happens when community members are fully engaged in the recovery process. You can’t rebuild if only half the community participates.

Assisting Nursing Teams to Provide Better Care

We’ve worked with teams of nurses to enhance patient care. The key insight? Quality care requires every team member to show up, support one another, and help each other thrive. Without this collective effort, the patient experience suffers.

Developing More Accountable Leadership Teams

We’ve guided leadership teams to embrace accountability by working through diverse perspectives. This approach has helped them tackle both current and future challenges, fostering stronger, more adaptable leadership.

Designing Uniform Clinical Referral Pathways

We’ve collaborated with healthcare systems to create consistent, patient-centered processes, such as a uniform clinical referral pathway. This ensures that patients receive the same high-quality experience no matter which clinic they visit.

Providing Resiliency Training for Teams

We’ve delivered training that allows individuals to assess their resilience and learn strategies for performing under pressure. This not only helps them manage stress more effectively but also increases overall engagement and team effectiveness.

The Vision of Growing the Green

The “Grow the Green” movement is about moving individuals and teams out of:

    •    The Battleground, where conflict and competition dominate.

    •    The Underground, where issues are hidden or ignored.

Instead, we aim to bring them into the Common Ground—a space of collaboration, shared purpose, and mutual success.

When individuals and teams work together in the Common Ground:

    •    Communities recover faster and more completely.

    •    Teams deliver exceptional care and support.

    •    Organizations build systems that meet current needs and adapt for the future.

‘Growing the Green’ is about helping everyone show up, thrive, and grow together because only through collective effort can we achieve the extraordinary.

Let’s Grow the Green and create a future where collaboration leads to success for all.
